Please introduce yourself, your research background and current research interests. My name is Dr Kohei Shitara and I am the Chief of the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at the National Cancer Center Hospital East (Kashiwa, Japan). My main research interests include development of new anti-cancer agents, optimal chemotherapy regimen for gastrointestinal (GI) cancer and translational research. How has next-generation sequencing (NGS) evolved in GI cancer in recent years? Advances in NGS technologies have enabled large-scale genomic profiling in GI cancers and have elucidated potentially targetable gene alterations.
