Symptoms of prostate cancer include an increased need to urinate, straining when urinating and a feeling that the bladder has not been emptied. The chance of developing prostate cancer increases as individuals get older, most cases are in men 50 years or older. It is also more common in Black men and less common for Asian men, the reasoning for this is not yet understood. Family history of the disease also plays a part, with men whose father or brother were affected by prostate cancer being at a slight increased risk themselves. Lastly, recent research has suggested that obesity increases the risk of prostate cancer.

Types of prostate cancer include acinar adenocarcinoma, ductal adenocarcinoma, transitional cell (or urothelial) cancer, squamous cell cancer, small cell prostate cancer, sarcomas and neuroendocrine tumors.
