SABCS24 | ESR1 breast cancer: could a brain-penetrating SERD pill advance treatment?

A brain-penetrating SERD termed imlunestrant is effective in treating ESR1-mutated breast cancer, either as a monotherapy or in combination with a CDK4/6 inhibitor. Data from the EMBER-3 trial has highlighted the potential of a next-generation selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) termed imlunestrant for certain ER-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer. The promising results of the trial, which were recently presented at SABCS (10–14th December 2024, TX, USA), could provide an oral therapy option for many patients whose recurrent breast cancers harbor ESR1 mutations.
