Brain metastasis, which occur in approximately one quarter of patients with renal cell carcinoma, exhibit distinct gene expression programs, according to a new study presented at the AACR Annual Meeting 2023 (April 14−19 2023, FL, USA). Additionally, the researchers discovered lower antitumor immune cell infiltration in these metastasis compared with primary tumors or metastases in other organs, opening the way for new therapeutic targets. In their study, Hasanov and colleagues collaborated with researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (TX, USA), Emory University (GA, USA) and Hecettepe University (Turkey). The teams compared the tumor microenvironments of brain metastases and extracranial metastasis...
