NHS England launches revolutionary trial for blood test for cancer

NHS England has launched the world’s largest trial of the Galleri™ blood test, which can detect more than 50 types of cancer before symptoms appear. Research has demonstrated that the test is particularly effective at identifying cancers that are typically difficult to detect early – such as head and neck, bowel, lung, pancreatic and throat cancers. The blood test works by detecting cfDNA circulating in the blood through next-generation sequencing, which recognizes DNA methylation.
