Minimally invasive hysterectomy could decrease survival in early-stage cervical cancer


Recently published in JAMA Oncology, a study has combined the results of 15 observation studies made up of 9499 early-stage cervical cancer patients who underwent radical hysterectomy. The aim was to compare minimally invasive versus open radical hysterectomy by investigating the risk of cancer recurrence and death.This year, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network have changed their guidelines on cervical cancer to define the open surgery as the recommended approach after studies have suggested that minimally invasive hysterectomies could increase the risk of cancer recurrence and death.
