ESMO 2024: first proof unveiled that breastfeeding after breast cancer is safe
Data recently presented at ESMO 2024 (13–17 September, Barcelona, Spain) has provided the first evidence on the safety of breastfeeding after breast cancer. Two international studies, including study participants with a germline BRCA mutation and hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer, have demonstrated that women who breastfeed their children after receiving treatment for breast cancer do not face an increased risk of recurrence or the development of new breast tumors [1,2].
