Type 3c diabetes could be an early manifestation of pancreatic cancer

A study lead by Núria Malats at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (Madrid, Spain) has investigated the link between the recently identified Type 3c diabetes – also termed pancreatogenic diabetes – and pancreatic cancer. It is hoped the findings could lead to earlier diagnoses of pancreatic cancer.Approximately 50% of pancreatic cancer patients also exhibit diabetes due to the dysregulation of insulin secretion. However, scientists are still unsure whether it is pancreatic cancer that causes diabetes in these patients or vice versa.
