Perspectives on pediatric cancers


In this exclusive interview with Oncology Central, Kathy Pritchard-Jones, Professor at the University College London Institute of Child Health (UK) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (UK), brings us her perspective on the challenges of treating pediatric cancers. She also discusses the issues surrounding the implementation of clinical trials in these malignancies.

Author biography

Kathy Pritchard-Jones is one of the UK’s foremost experts in childhood cancer, has been a consultant in the field of pediatric oncology for 20 years and is currently a Professor of Paediatric Oncology at the Institute of Child Health (London, UK), where she leads a research group of international standing; she is also a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She heads a laboratory for research into the molecular biology of childhood renal tumours, principally Wilms’ Tumour. Her group is researching improving risk stratification and more personalised treatment made possible by molecular medicine, to give children the best chance of a long-term cure without undue risky and potentially damaging side-effects.
