Pulmonary adenocarcinoma with combined ALK translocation and copy number gain: a rare case with treatment response

ALK gene rearrangements are detected by FISH, which also provides information on the ALK gene copy number per cell. ALK gene copy number gain (CNG) is a relative common finding in non-small-cell lung cancers; however, the clinical significance of ALK CNG is unclear. Here we reported a case of pulmonary adenocarcinoma that demonstrated combined ALK translocation and CNG, and provided clinical follow-up information including ALK inhibitor treatment responses. The prolonged response of this patient to ALK inhibitor therapy suggests that patients with ALK CNG in addition to ALK translocation may gain additional benefits from ALK inhibitor therapy.
