NCRI 2019: Non-invasive test for detecting cervical pre-cancer developed

Researchers have developed self-screening test to detect pre-cancerous cervical lesions. The non-invasive test, termed S5, allows women to self collect urine and vaginal samples. Findings from the study were recently presented at the NCRI 2019 Cancer Conference (3-5 November, Glasgow, Scotland).In previous research, whereby the test accuracy was evaluated on samples collected by health care professionals it demonstrated a 100% accuracy rate at detecting invasive cervical cancer and 93% at detecting pre-cancer in women who had received a HPV positive test.
