Colorectal cancer: prevalence & current trends in diagnosis
Colorectal cancer (CRC) accounts for approximately 9% of total worldwide cancer causes, it is the fourth most common cancer among men and the third among women [1,2]. In the UK, CRC represents the second most common cause of death due to cancer with more than 100 cases diagnosed every day . To date, the main prognostic predictor as well as the treatment in patients with CRC are mainly based upon clinical and pathologic tumor staging .
Notably, those data show that this condition has a tremendous impact on population as well as on the different health systems budgets around the world. CRC represents one of the main challenges of modern medicine and current/future oncology, since it is a daily demanding pathology as regards diagnosis and treatment.
