Breast cancer screening: is 3D superior to digital mammography for cancer detection?

A new comparison between digital breast tomosynthesis (also called 3D mammography) and digital mammography has shown that 3D can be much more accurate in detecting breast cancer as a screening method. However, 10% of women with extremely dense breasts do not see this benefit.The Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (WN, USA) study, published recently in JAMA Network Open, aimed to identify which population of women would benefit more from 3D mammography in breast cancer screening.
