It was recently announced that V. Craig Jordan, OBE, from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (TX, USA) has been appointed Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) by Queen Elizabeth II on her Birthday Honours List for services to women’s health.

The award recognizes Jordan’s discovery of Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) as the first multifunctional medicines for women that can treat several diseases simultaneously, such as breast cancer.

Jordan advocated the reinvention of a failed contraceptive ICI 46,474, to become the world’s most successful breast cancer treatment, tamoxifen. To find out more about this, read our interview with Jordan here. Or find out Jordan’s scientific survival suggestions here.

The Queen’s Birthday Honours list, released annually, recognizes the achievements of extraordinary people from the UK and across the Commonwealth.
