For children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who relapse, prognosis is poor and novel therapeutic strategies are needed. In the last decade, it has become apparent that ALL exhibits unique epigenetic patterns in addition to the well known cytogenetic findings. Furthermore, whole genome sequencing efforts are revealing recurrent mutations in epigenetic modifiers in ALL. Aberrant epigenetic modulation may be involved in leukemic transformation and resistance to chemotherapy.
